New Nikkor 17-35 f/2.8 lens at Moddergat during sunset

Last week on Friday, I finally decided to follow my heart and buy the Nikkor AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8 D IF ED lens. I felt the need to have a wider angle for quite some time but was hesitant about the purchase because of the costs. I grew gradually towards the final decision and trusted my instincts that the lens would be a valuable addition and would offer me new and more opportunities in my photography.

Yesterday evening after an extremely hot and humid summer day, I had an appointment with a photo friend to meet at Moddergat to shoot the sunset and share our recent photographic adventures. I had met Gonnie Veldhuizen during a shoot in the Lauwersmeer area last winter and we shared the desire to go out on a shoot one day. A previous appointment to shoot at night to catch a meteoric shower was not very successful (not shooting stars at all!).

Yesterdays evening appeared not very spectacular when it came to evening glow and cloud structures but the lights were very soft and beautiful, almost divine in nature. The gallery below shows my results with new 17-35 lens.I hope the photos convey some of the wonderful conditions.

About the new lens, I am very satisfied with the performance and am sure that I will benefit from it a lot in the future!

    Rijko,
You have taken something so prosaic and turned into such an ethereal scene!
    Truly stunning results.
